    I once fired a CW Argon 6 watt Spectra-Physics laser through dining room the window of my house onto a tree in my backyard. I measured 6 watts at the laser head and this was multimode operation with new optics I had just installed and aligned. It didn't burn the tree at 150 feet but I didn't use a Newtonian telescope to focus the spot size at a distance.
    The beam was solidly visible for the entire path because of all the dust particles in the air. Man was it bright, toasted a few moths that night !
