Default "Disappearing" backdrop colors to use with laser and LED wash lights - suggestions?

I'm looking for recommendations for a good backdrop color (and material) that would be good to use as a front-projection screen for laser graphics and LED wash light effects, but would also pretty much "disappear" when not directly lit up by either of those light sources.

Black would be ideal - except doesn't seem to do well with wash lights, and really seems to absorb blue laser light (especially 473nm).
White seems to stand out WAY too much, even if not being lit directly by the lasers or wash lights.

    Open to suggestions -
    Thanks!
