I don't know what to say. No parent should have to endure the hardship of outliving their child. As a father of a young child, nothing frightens me more then this possibility. I can't imagine how hard this must be for the two of you.

I know its early, but in the coming days/weeks/months, I hope you and your wife consider seeing a grief counselor (separately or together as advised by the counselor). I can tell you from first hand experience that after dealing with a tragic loss, its healthy to be able to chat with someone educated about how to adjust to your new reality. Even if it doesn't help at all, you get to 'unload' on someone once every x weeks without the worry that you're 'burdening them' with your sorrow. Not that any of your friends or relatives will necessarily ever feel that way, but it removes the possibilty.

Even if you don't choose to go this route, I hope you'll talk to lots of people and frequently. Strong people share both their triumphs and tradgedies.
