Default DMX to TTL from LVP

After many hrs of trying to write my own DMX code for a PIC I gave up. Yeah I know now Dave. PIC BAD! So I got one of these DMX to TTL boards from Dave. These are AVR based. With some rock solid code. They also come with a failsafe mode that will keep the last output of the DMX signal is lost. This can be turned off by a switch if desired. They were even nice enough to include the female jacks for the power and DMX in. It was a nice small touch

I use LDS and an EasyLase. I made my own DMX daughter board. So in my shows I can now control external events.

they can be found from Dave here and through

Hi yeh I looked at these too, and they look great. The only down side for me is they are in Oz and I'm impatient and in the UK! Have you looked here
http://www.milinst.com/ they are based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK and do loads of DMX boards from 1 switch relay, 8 TTL outputs, 8 relays, PWM/stepper board, servo, dimmer etc Ideal for laser projectors!
Hopefully gonna buy a couple of these babies for my next project! Hey f any of you do buy them let em know who told you about em. Cheers!

Australia is only a couple of days via courier.. Our board shipped via courier will cost about the same as that board..

Im not sure whether this board would be suitable for lasers tho, as i cant see a failsafe mode in the datasheet.

Thanks for the kudos Myron, glad you like the board.

    Hi Bobert,

I also have a question about the board to which you refer. Does it have an option whereby if it loses DMX, it will extinguish the outputs?

I personally consider this to be critical for laser display use, but most generic DMX to "fill in the blank here" will maintain the "last output" upon loss of DMX. That's not bad for normal lighting use, but this kind of operation has obvious safety implications for laser use...

    Best regards,

    William Benner

Hi Will, In answer to your question the data sheet that comes with the digital dmx board states, "The red fault LED will flash regularly if the module does not detect an incoming DMX signal. During this condition, all the outputs are set to their start-up values (0).
The fault LED will extinguish once a valid DMX signal is received but any previous output state information will
    need to be re-sent."
So, as long as as the actuators are set out of the beam when at zero and you have a shutter that is closed with a dmx value of zero, i would imagine it would be ok. It would appear that the outputs dont just stick at there current value if the DMX signal is lost.
    cheers rob
