More weekend laser porn! This one's a c1970 University Labs model L241 with the Spectra-Physics name on the power supply and an S-P tag on the bottom. University Labs was formed in 1966 by Tom Perkins, the "Valley Boy" of silicon valley venture capitalist fame. He partnered up with electrical engineer Richard Jaenicke and Henry Rhodes, a glassblower with a shop in Berkeley, CA on University Ave. The loft above was divided into three spaces: the center one for Perkins' office, on the left was an artist making paper mache psychedelic gorillas, and on the right was Augustus Stanley Owsley III who was heavily into the production of LSD (still legal at the time).
I have about ten of their lasers in the collection. They eventually sold the company to S-P, and this is apparently one made during the transition. It features a collinear aluminum cathode, unlike the dual neon sign cathodes of their earlier tubes.
