Ok, so when my used pair gets here, which is a first generation board, I'll run a quick set of tests. Then it goes to Germany for a re-flash to the most modern version of the FPGA code... Then we do the real tests...
.
I'm stoked, because this opens so many possibilities, shows synced across a river, possibly wireless etc.

My loaner adapter for test/development is on the way to me so hopefully soon I will be one step closer to moving away from DAC driver madness.
Very nice of Dexlogic to provide you a loaner.. Kudos to Dexlogic for such action..

I just sent the IDN modules to Germany for a firmware upgrade. When they get back, I'll test for bandwidth, latency, effect of long cables, wireless hubs etc..

ILDA's binding non-profit corporate charter (articles of incorporation) requires a full year wait be instituted between a rule change proposal and it's implementation. Unless an emergency is declared by the board, everything major takes a year. Thus legally, ILDA can be perceived as slow, as you say.

IMHO Bad for hardware guys, not great for dealing with external forces, good for reducing internal politics... Probably could be shortened to six months. WHen ILDA was founded, electronic communication was not the driving force as it is today. Things were slower.

One thing I can see from Pangolin's point. If they opened the API, and there were Youtube videos showing FB4 hardware ran by horribly crude, horribly inferior, home-made software, FB4 sales could plummet. It only takes one really bad review in the Internet World to start the crash of years of work.

They do need to stay in business..

Open source standards only work if you have a certain, large, critical mass of installed users.
Ie IBM PC, Mac, RS232, standardized electrical power outputs, etc..
+
I can even give you an example of a world wide, highly standardized, published, free or low cost , interface that is actually highly selective, tricky to implement, often results in failed relationships, and only works part of the time. Oh wait, this is not a human reproduction forum.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.
Dirk has been working on this for a long time. Starting when he was a student in Engineering. He presented it at many conferences, some of which I attended. If you Google, you can find academic papers published and presented on the hardware and software. Its been a long work in process, with lots of peer review. Thus ILDA did not just bestow a monopoly on a scheming corporate guy. That is NOT the case at all.

Anyways, both of my IDN modules, the early model ones, just arrived in Germany for their software updates. They will be getting a newer, better designed, case that is more friendly to projector mounting.

I should have them back around the 15th of Janurary for review.
