i have never attempted a coil of that power level, i dismantled mine due to much needed repairs , mine did do about 8 inch streamers with capacitors i made from glass but now decided to rebuild the tank with the newer cornel doubler but for mine i need 20 of then to get the needed capacitance and i did get tungsten for the spark gap, i was using steel bolts that corroded like hell, i have never had the funds to try a solid state one yet and never had luck with a spiral flat or angled primary, i had always made them like in your example, straight up coil at the base of the secondary and tuning it with a sliding contact, usually an alligator clip, the upper most round copper conductor around your primary, is that for it to arc to?
I need to work on the primary coil formers, templates would be great

48" arcs is insane. I made one a long long time ago with and I thought I was doing good to get 8" arcs. I'd love to see one like yours working.

I'm in GR? You anywhere close? I can get you a template for the primary.
That strike rail above protects the primary from arcs it is a ground point, if the primary takes many hits it quickly will take out the switching IgBT's.

The primary on mine is not tapped it was designed and built at resonance. One end comes from the mc tank, the other returns to the neutral of the +/- 210vdc power supply doubler.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Also just ordered some parts as I begin to collect what is needed to build a monster that will do 7-9’ arcs. So with any luck might have something real impressive.

    Holy Crap!

7 to 9 FOOT arcs? That's going to have to be set up in the parking lot at SELEM!

I'm assuming it will be solid state as well, right? So we can play music through it? (How cool will that be?)

Damn - SELEM is still 9 months away and it's already shaping up to be awesome!
