Are you sure it's not been slightly zapped? I've seen those thingers before, usually rated around 100W. I won't stand by my thought with any vigour though, I can't find a record of that, any listings I saw will have long expired off eBay by now.

As far as I know, the laser was rated to 35 watts from coherent.
