I am wrong of course. The nucleus mass does matter for the atomic spectrum, but only for small atoms. The difference is on the order of (electron mass)/(nucleus mass) so it's very small but not insignificant for small atoms like helium. The reason for my confusion was that in quantum mechanics you usually take the nucleus's mass to be infinite compared to the electron mass when calculating energy levels.
