    Default Old Xenon Laser

During my correspondence with Rod Waters regarding his time at Korad (Ted Maiman's early laser company after he left Hughes), he also told me a little about his time at Florod, the company he started after Korad. In that discussion, he recommended I look for the model LFA to add to the collection I'm building. Well, I found one and it's in great condition. When I picked it up, I was expecting a YAG or ruby laser, but instead it turned out to be a pulsed Xenon laser instead! I love it. Another plasma tube saved from oblivion!

Here it is, the 1984 Florod model LFA laser trimming system in excellent condition. It weighs about 400 pounds so it'll be staying in this location for a while.

Very cool!!!! The ion tube complexity reminds me of a HeCd. I love the glasswork in all these old ions.

Howdy: I hope the initial poster is available. I got a similar tube hanging on my wall that probably won't make the next move. If you can use it you can have it, just pay shipping.
Let me know if you're interested. Robert

A wonderful new addition to the Vintage Laser Archive is this pristine 1980 Florod Xenon ion plasma tube, donated by Mr. Robert Smith. He took it out of a system in the early '80s and kept it on the wall ever since. Way to go Robert! Best packing job I've seen!!! I wonder how many other "man caves" feature laser plasma tubes? Anyway, it's on the shelf here with another Xenon ion laser (Pacific Lasers) and an old Argon from Britt.

Love that old-school vibe... Glass tubes are sexy!

That being said, my wife is unlikely to allow me to have any more ion lasers in the house. Seems she's still salty about the hole in the couch from 12 years ago...

Remember: always use an appropriate beam block when firing an HGM5 in your living room folks...
