    Default Old Soviet Laser Pointer!

Here's a great new addition to the Vintage Laser Archive. It's a 1989 LG-73 He-Ne laser pointer head from the former USSR. Everything unscrews from the exoresonator tube. The threads for the plasma tube are on a metal section of it. The mirrors are glued into position on the end caps. I'm amazed it lases, and love the rocket design. A true nugget in the collection!

That's a wonderful bit of miniaturisation, would love to see it working. Are you trying for a museum?

I'm sorry. I used the word "lases" thinking about the design, and should have used the word "lased" to describe this particular unit. This one doesn't work. The tube has a little hole in it where it broke due to a hit on the side that made a little dent not seen in the pic. It originally had an output of about 2mW, so wasn't as impressive a performer as it is a design. Imagine a Watt of green coming out of it!

It's hard to imagine 2mW out of a tube that small! Also crazy to see that the optics are not hard sealed to the tube. Great find! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Absolom7691. And Frostypaw, eventually yes. I want it all on public display, and really look forward to an opportunity to spread them all out properly with pictures, documentation, and other artifacts to tell the story of their development. Funding for such a museum can come from the big applications of lasers or wealthy interested corporations or individuals. Be great to find a place to exhibit them in the meantime. Locally, there's ASU here in Tempe and University of Arizona in Tucson.

That's a shame, but only so many miracles to go around. I'd visit a laser museum, loved the holography one years ago. The monster machines of now are much more easily understood starting at the small human scale stuff

Great to see these old lasers Bob. I always enjoy looking at your posts
