I agree the problem is society. But not all citizens are corrupt. The problem with society is that no one cares about anything till it disrupts their life style directly. Its sad, most of the country are hubristic armchair quarterbacks. Hardly anyone take the time to research their views, and opinions to back up their words. Most everyone gets their views from 10 second media clips that they feed us through TV, internet, and our phones.

I didnt really like Carter, but he knew what he was talking about in this speech. This speech was 37 years ago. Not much has changed, and his opinions on consumption have come to to fruition.

They are also a lot of good people doing really good things in our society. The trouble is the ratio is on the far end of equal, especially in the government. True change cannot come from the top. The depth of shit goes so far down that we will always being presented with having to make a choice of the better of two evils. Change comes from the bottom. We need to seek out these far, and few good people and vote them into lower offices so they can rise and eventually become world leaders. All people have to do is the research, and get out and vote the person, not the party. Get the lobbyists out of the government completely, and change the Supreme Courts ruling concerning U.S. Term Limits, Inc. v. Thornton.

Justice Clarence Thomas, in dissent, countered that:

“It is ironic that the Court bases today's decision on the right of the people to "choose whom they please to govern them." Under our Constitution, there is only one State whose people have the right to "choose whom they please" to represent Arkansas in Congress... Nothing in the Constitution deprives the people of each State of the power to prescribe eligibility requirements for the candidates who seek to represent them in Congress. The Constitution is simply silent on this question. And where the Constitution is silent, it raises no bar to action by the States or the people.”

He also noted that the amendment did not actually prevent anyone from election since it only prevents prospective fourth termers from being printed on the ballot but not from being written-in, and therefore did not overstep the qualifications clause of the federal Constitution.
Only then do we have a chance at change, and prosperity. Imagine a time when we have real, honest candidates to choose from, and a fresh hand picked congress who would pass laws to punish deception, not promote it. Laws that benefit people, and the sates they live in, instead of the lobbyist who are backed by self interest groups who's only care is the bottom line. As a people we can achieve this, and by leading as example other counties would follow. But unfortunately most Americans are sheep, and are to enchanted by consumerism to give a damn about it. As long as we have our "I have to get the next greatest thing" mentality, everyone is happy. Except the Chinese women, and children that work 80 hours a week for pennies to build everything we buy, and "need".

Except the people of our own country that lost so many jobs due to outsourcing that it turned historical cities into ghettos.

Except small towns that were turned into ghost towns by Wallymart. BTW thirty years ago Hillary Clinton began a six-year tenure as a member of Walmart's board of director. Clinton has largely avoided mentioning on the campaign trail.

Except the farmers, who feed the country natural food for over 100 years, who were forced into bankruptcy because lobbyists from Monsanto paid to change the law that you couldnt patent a seed. Monsanto sued farmers who's crops were contaminated by Monsanto bio seeds, making room for the inhumanity of industrial farming. The long list of crimes against humanity that Monsanto are staggering. It boggles the mind that no one hardly notices this, or has come together to closed this Evil Corp.

I could go on but you get the point. I'm not debating this post, its only my opinion, and advice. Like all opinions, and advice, use what you can and throw the rest away. But dont throw away the fact that choice is an illusion made to control you. Only when you step out of your comfortable box will you see the truth. Thousands of people have fought, and died for your rights. Dont desecrate their effort by throwing them away.

I would agree with most everything you said except.

that is the biggest illusion of them all, the military use to be a noble profession and saving others from usually an abusive, tyrannical government (surprise), now they are hired thugs, a cog in the corporate military industrial complex. How many millions have we killed to "protect our freedoms" (which is a BS story too)
