    Default two color mirror.

you might not think this qualifies as advanced discussion but i 'm hoping the results advance my technical knowledge.

in the beam box i have, the first mirror in the beam path(set at 45degrees) bounces the green laser off it's front face and also allows a red beam to pass straight through the back face thus blending the beams.

first question is, what is the proper name of this type of mirror?

second question is, will a green beam pass through the back face of this type of mirror?(as the red beam originally did.)

Dichroic filters they called and you need to check a spec sheet to know what can go trough and with can be reflected. But normally you can pass trough green and blue and reflect red. But again its better to check spec sheet to be sure. I normally use green as a base mounted parallel. Then I put red side ways and have a filter to reflect red and pass green then I have blue side ways and filter to reflect blue and pass green and red.

    thanks guys.
i figured dicro meant two color
    my suspicions are confirmed.
i have enough of a grasp to know wavelengths can be allowed or denied through a filter.
i guess that makes my question a little spurious.
    still thanks.
i'm adding a green 100mw laser to this box and ,due to space restrictions, have to bounce the beam in from below where the red originally was.
looks like i will have to remove the filter to allow the green to pass.
i will lose the use of the original onboard green but that is only about 25mw.
oh well,i'll only have to align one beam then.

Absolutely. If you don't, the green beam will be reflected off the "back" of that dichro and sent off at a 45 degree angle just as the original green beam was reflected off the "front" of that dichro.

well,i'm getting one of the lp532 100mws from dave.
he said they often outpreform spec.output.
maybe i'll get lucky and get one that makes up for bypassing the 25mw.
even if it comes in right at 100mw,it will be such a huge improvement i know i will be happy.

if i get verified today on paypal i will be ordering.

    woot woot!!!

I think you'll be impressed. Stepping up from 25 mw to 100 mw is a pretty big jump. Plus everyone I've talked to has always had good things to say about the kit that Dave and Aijii sell.

Post some pictures when you get it up and running!
