I have come across a c1963 Spectra-Physics model 112 He-Ne laser head, an ultra-rare supernugget for the collection. It has a very elaborate tilting mechanism for the front mirror that was chromed steel, but now has a green corrosion all over. The rest of the head cleaned up nicely. I used brass wool on the RF antenna rods and it took the green off very well, but this tilter is too detailed for that to work easily. I'm hoping for a chemical solution (pun intended). Does anyone here have experience cleaning such corrosion off chrome? I read it's probably copper coming up from under the chrome, and that acids may work. I've read about oxalic acid being used. Any help will be appreciated. I really don't want to just leave it.
