    Default to many lasers?

i watched the clip from the mtv euro awards and found it just too much for my tastes.
    it's sculpture right?
everyone has their own opinions about art but i like to use empty space as well in shows.
granted,i don't have twenty odd lasers to use for a show but if i did i'm sure i would design something with more space in it.

i saw floyds show on t.v and that is more my idea of a good show.

    what do you think?

    Cool

I think it was overdone. Too cluttered. Green or not, it could have been put together better. With that many projectors on at the same time all displaying the same exact pattern it just looked like an explosion at a spaghetti factory.

I agree that other colors would have been better, but even if they had to stick with green only they could have done more to mix up the patterns. Have some rotation, some sweeps and pans, anything... I actually thought it was pretty boring, especially considering how much money they must have spent on the lasers themselves.

I think it's all about the magic of that music mixed with the lights (I really like this band, already saw it 5 times in live, even if Starlight is the most "commercial" one of their last album and not my prefered )
I never saw a laser to one of their live, so I think it was their first try... But still I found this amazing the first time I saw it. And the public too, you can ear a lot of shouting when lasers starts...

I actually dont mind the show.

I think it would be a lot harder to make it look good if all the lasers were doing different stuff.

Cheep shit i dont think so. 2w dpss's with inbuilt QM.nets are pretty impressive in my book.

    Cool

    Dave;

I don't mind that they were syncronized, I had a problem with the fact that they only used two basic effects. (The multi-beam fan and the solid fan.) I would have liked to see some other geometric patterns, and some rotation.

Eh, I dunno. Maybe I'm just being picky. But with the budget they had for that show I thought they could have done better.

I'm with you on the cost of those units though. 2 watts, even of 532 nm green, is certainly not "cheap shit". Don't know where Dr. Laser was coming from with that comment... (And 1982??? WTFBBQ? That show would have been groundbreaking even in 1992!)

How'd you discover that they were running Pangolin QM.net hardware? Just curious...

Laserimage are light years ahead. I was reading they have replaced all their gas lasers with DPSS. I think that has to be a sign of the future...

I just watched the vid and I bet in person that show was very cool. I think a lot of colors would have spoiled it to be honest. If it was a laser show all on its own it would have been lame but as effects to compliment a band I think it was good. Besides, the point is to watch the band, not the lasers.
