Although a FAC lens reduces the divergence of the slow axis, it doesn't help all that much other than making the output more rounded. I think I have that correct.

Ha, I said it wrong. Of course F means Fast I knew that, not that stupid, but I did mix two concepts, beam correction cylinder lenses and FAC lenses which are two different things. Thank you for quoting me, but I wouldn't go back and edit the post anyway. I've never thought quoting the post right above the other to make much sense, I only do that if referring to something further away in the string.

Honestly I have no clue. There was no datasheet for these diodes when they hit the hobby market, so I know little about the diode other than they are 5W rated and red.
To those who may be interested, I'd go $400 on this.
