Is the window on the front of the Opnext HL6545MG needed for anything other than a dust cover ?? I'm thinking of removing it to clear the path !!

OK -- With 26 views and no reasons not to, I'm off to my lathe. !!
Mike
NO! Stop!
If you seee a big red button on your workshop wall, push it now!
That window is 0.3 mm thick, and refracts the light in a way that most laser optics are designed to expect.
Actually it might not be that serious a problem, but you won't gain anything noticeable by breaking that glass anyway.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to turn the front off the caseallowing everything to get out. I tried it on a cheap red (3mW) and the output went up about 5% !!
I'll hold off.
Mike
Hahaha... that's the spirit!
5% on a low power red? Should be interesting to see the results on some other diodes if you can scrounge up some dead DVD burners or other cheapies. I'd say hold off on the Opnext for now, until accumulating more data, as well as can cutting practice.
Alas, poor diode. I fried him well.
