I saw this picture on someone's phone as it was being passed around the cafeteria at SELEM. I think at that point it was already on Facebook though. I honestly thought it was a photoshop, and I also thought it was in rather poor taste to be making memes about someone who had done so much for our community. I certainly didn't think it would end up in the Laserist group though!

We've had trouble with this before, but I had hoped we were past all that. I completely agree with everything posted above; the type of car Bill's family chooses to drive isn't any of our business. But the larger point is this: why are people still trying to play "stump the teacher" with regard to Pangolin? Is there some prize for catching a mistake uttered by a Pangolin employee? And who started this game? Because the game is weak, and it's plainly pissing people off. That doesn't help anyone.

Christ. Firstly, I'm glad to hear that your son is OK. That is a non starter. But, if you HAD given him a MB on his 19th birthday, the only problem with that is this sometimes can inhibit a young person from feeling the hunger to strive a little harder. But, even that is relative. If the leading laser software company in the world has to pinch pennies that's not good. Warren Buffet lives modestly, but by choice. If rumors are being spread, so what? It just means someone is dissatisfied with what they have and that is a result of their own decisions.

I'll bet the issue is people thought, "Gee, just like people who aren't really handicapped seem to have the plate to snatch up the handicapped parking spaces, these privileged folks think they can just park in a fire lane and no one will say anything because they have a Mercedez."

Damn, nasty crash - glad your son is OK!

Its funny to see Mercedes as "exotic" car, as there are hundreds on the road over here. But if you want absolute maximum ultra safety car, go for Volvo. Those cars don't fulfill the safety car requirements by EU or US. They exceeded them. Over 300% more!

Yep. The safest car in Euro Testing is the Volvo XC90 4x4:

    http://www.euroncap.com/en/ratings-r...ass-cars/2015/

The other class leaders are also listed there.

For those outside the EU, Euro N Cap testing is very stringent and detailed.

Here's the full report for the XC90 as a .pdf: http://euroncap.blob.core.windows.ne...-datasheet.pdf

It breaks down different passenger / crash scenarios into severity of likely trauma to different parts of the body.

That said, the slightly smaller Mercedes Benz GLC gets a best in class as well.
