    Default Holovect 3D Animation Laser

    Came across this video of a new laser display system that appears to be able to do 3d animation by using a combination of lasers and a programmable air blowing unit that i've not seen elsewhere.

    Would obviously like to see it on a larger scale for a longer laser show/performance but i feel like this or similar could absolutely be the next step for this hobby.

    Thoughts? Load of crap? Gimmick? Grab for money? Next big thing?

    This is your first post? (Under the name of Satan, no less.) I call promotional B.S.!

    This is obviously a laser projecting onto a plastic sheet. It is not creating an actual 3d image. The video is a giveaway as well. Focusing on talking about the SDK instead of the projection technology? Talking about his previous experience inventing (solar powered phone booths)? C'mon!

    Not connected in any way, just saw the video on facebook and saw no mention here and thought it'd be worth being dissected.
    I for one, do think it looked fake too but just seemed odd they went to the effort of making so much evidence otherwise.
    Lots of misdirection in the video and a lack of details on how it works too was a bit of a giveaway but it could have been possible.
    Edit: I actually feel a bit silly for posting this now.

    this thing was part of a failed kickstarter back in 2015:

    suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

    Its just a laminar flow of air containing something like oil or glycol haze. It Has serious problems for dimensional scaling, and not to mention where does the un-scattered laser light go?

    Cool toy, but fundamentally limited, especially when you move your face to the wrong position and catch a beam in the eye.

    Hence all the "misdirection" in the video so you do not see the stray light hitting walls, ceiling, whatever... Your image is a distorted graphic when it hits the walls. Without a catch plate for the stray light, its a IEC/CDRH compliance nightmare, and the catch plate would spoil the effect...

    {}
    Only going to work in a dim room and a few cubic cm of volume, which is a serious issue
    {}
    Still very limited by galvo speed, if you think 30K PPS is limiting, wait till you try 30K PPS(2.5 KHz) stretched to 3D space...

    No plastic sheet, just dust, and honestly there are multiplexed lenticular lens LCD displays coming that will blow this out of the water.

    @ Thoughts? Load of crap? Gimmick?....

    Yeah !

    Scaled up x 100 , with a careful setup, ally honeycomb,big fans good commutating air valves, good hazers, pangoscanners,swami animations, powerful RGB projectors and you could get a decent show together

    ...but on small scale ...

    Cheers

    128 by 128 Valve array would be 16,384 valves. Even if you did an amazing MEMS valve array, that's a lot of tubes to align. Which would be expensive as it would burn a full six inch wafer... 512 x 512 valve array = 262,000 valves.

    Valves only on rows ...columns different system...... but yeah, very very pricey!

    Cheers
    PS.
    But kind of nice to dream about!
