Default Red Laser Module for PL 1700 RGB Laserworld Laser - Need Replacement

    Hi Gentlemen

My name is Chad Swart from South Africa, I am currently looking for a replacement RED Laser module for my RGB Laser>
The Red has suddenly died. I sourced this laser to CNI and the unfortunately they do not stock this
model any longer. I dont want to have to alter too much if possible, currently they trying to offer me
a 640nm but I have made a drawing up of the current housing to see if there specs are similar.

The details on the laser housing says Laserworld 400 - I'm nit sure if this is a 300mw or 400mw?

    Blue is - 800mw
Green - I am also not sure as there is no details on housing - I suspect 400 - 500mw

The power supply unit for the Red - 5v 2.0A - if possible I would like to keep this and only replace
    the laser module.

Can anyone offer any advice and a fairly decent Red Laser module as replacement? Please see attachments of the housing specs & the power supply unit.

    Hi Bruce

It does not have any other info on the housing, but the model that was matched by CNI
is a 640nm 400mw. Even if i can get something similar or better 635, 638, 637.. So long
as its a good quality and good price.

Laserworld also could did not give me any technical specs on this laser, nothing in the user manual.
They wanted R14,000 the last time I checked. But I can see this is definitely a CNI laser. The
sizes are exactly the same as the model they have discontinued. They trying to offer me a 635nm
I am just waiting on some specs on the housing unit. If I need to modify the base plate for
the beam center height I can sort that out.

Anybody here have any dealings with CNI & what is their quality like?

    Hi Chad,
If you search for Laserworld on the forum here you will note have a bad rap although I do hear they are trying clean up there act ( maybe in America ) I don't buy there stuff as it is marked up by so much that it is unaffordable ( the local agents ). The best person to speak to on the forum would be a chap called DTR honest and reliable ask anyone here, but you will pay, the words quality and cheap do not go together in laser world. I don't think cni will deal with you directly as they are a manufacturer and will usually want you to put in a large order. The cheap option would be Wuhan Laserlands I have purchased from them but it's case of buyer beware you get what you pay for. imho get hold DTR. ps is the laser analogue or ttl modulation?

    Hi Bruce

Thanks for the heads up, yeah I unfortunately burnt my fingers buying from Laserworld about 5 years ago.. Normal mistakes of
newbies, however for me to get the feel of things and see if I wanted to take it further it was the most cost effective at the time.
Most of all the other good brands where a bit out of my budget. I have to live with this mistake though.. But I am preparing to
get KVANT lasers for my next purchase and rather pay extra for the better quality.

I have had an answer from CNI today so I am good for the Red Laser, they can supply me the same unit. I just want to get this
replaced and in working order again.

    Thanks again for the advice

Just be sure if it TTL or Analogue. You cant go wrong with Kvant I was going to get one myself and they gave me an excellent price. Unfortunately there is not much business here in Durban for lasershows. ps also have a original ( confirmed by Pangolin ) copy of QS and a FB3 dongle if you are interested I used it once for a wedding will work perfectly with a Kvant

not sure how a CNI laser failing is LW fault but anywho... DTR sells diodes not sure how that's going to help since he requested a replacement module... are you willing/capable of replacing the actual diodes? if so then yes, buy some laser diodes either from DTR or from the east on ebay and replace them yourself... make sure to check driver current BEFORE connecting the diodes so you don't blow up the new diodes

also 640/642 usually has really nice beam specs, so beware of more powerful 637 diodes, most higher power diodes are flashlights

I've got a complete Laserwave 350mW 640nm single mode dual diode head if you're interested. Includes psu/driver as a single unit.
Can send you pics and dimensions if you're interested

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

looking at the pics it looks diodes mounted in some sort of housing that why I steered him towards DTR from what I see on the forums he is very helpful. He said CNI are trying to sell him a 635nm which will not have the same specs as the 640/642 apparently the 635 is a flashlight (not sure)

Yeah, 635 will be a fat beam.
Mine is a sealed head, same as his, but smaller and uses a PBS cube to combine. The PSU/driver is separate from the head.

Edit - just found my for sale thread which has pics in
