Default Looking for 2700v 5.0ma HeNe Power Supply

I recently acquired a JDSU 1676 543.5nm Green HeNe laser at a bargain basement price. It is in great condition and output almost 1.7mw, though it came with an insufficient power supply.

So, I'm looking for an appropriate but inexpensive supply. I'm happy to build an enclosure myself, wire up a cord, etc. I have a spare alden connector lying around, but ideally the supply will have one attached.

According to the specification sheet, this laser requires 2700vdc (+/- 100v), 5.0ma (+/- 0.1ma), with a max 10kv starting pulse.

Ideally I'm looking for a 110VAC supply, rather than a DC powered unit. Located in California.

    Thanks!

Hit up junktronix here on PL or on eBay... he is in San Jose. You can also try Dean at Nite-Lite (in So Cal).

Thanks Sal, I'll get in contact with junktronix.

We also still need to grab coffee sometime! Let me know when you are free.

You can also try eBay. Here is one quick find.

Perhaps the Seller can give you more detailed info.

Yep, I've been monitoring eBay, just wondering if somebody had something appropriate laying around. There are a lot of supplies that are close to what I need—but I haven't run across a 5ma (or adjustable current) supply yet.

I've got a supply I can use with my new tube in the interim, so I'll just keep an eye out. Thanks!

The tube will draw what it requires with it's ballast resistor
so even a 7mA supply should work.

the key is to make sure the tube has a ballast resistor..

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Yup.... without the Ballast resistor the tube is basically
    a dead short.

"Negative Resistance" is the term I remember from the laser FAQ...

Spend a good bit of time trying to understand the concept, and in the end I just pushed the "I Believe" button and made damned sure I always had the balance resistor hooked up to the Anode before plugging the PSU in!

You just need an adjustable supply with 2700V in the voltage swing range. Since HeNe modules are constant current mode don't use a 7 mA supply that does not have a trim pot of you will be running 7 mA; not good. Sam Goldwasser (Sam's Laser FAQ) and I have new supplies for $150 that I can set at 5.0 mA for you. Phil (Sam's partner)
