    Cool My Rgb...

Ok, after 2 weeks of wrenching and allot of swearing...
I have something that resembles a laser projector.

Here are some pictures of the construction phase and some pic's of testing...
Photo's were taken with my mobile phone, so they aren't the best.
    Any comments?

Great pictures Werner! Good job on the metal work. That case is certainly robust.

I'm guessing that all your lasers are TTL then? (Looks that way from the pics at least.) You alignment looks to be dead-on. Very nice.

Only thing I noticed is a lack of a safety shutter. You've just *barely* got room to add one between the last dichro and your galvos though.

How much power at each wavelength are you running?

    Thanks Buffo,

    All are analog modulation, 635nm = 500mW; 473nm = 250mW; 532nm = 250mW

    Ahhh, yes the shutter..
will add one when i have figured out how to control one from Phoenix???

    Yes the projector is small 350 x 300 x 250mm high.

What do you think of the home made mirror mount on the green...

    Looks good Werner, very solid

I don't know how warm those lasers get, but make sure the red and green heads don't build up heat and get too warm - as they're not bolted directly to the baseplate/heatsink.

To raise the laser heads I recommend to use aluminum plates and Arctic silver compound. I would not recommend mounting those heads like that.

I didn't even notice the mounts on the heads the first time I looked. I just assumed they were bolted to the baseplate.

But looking closer, I see that Dr Laser and p1t8ull are correct; those lasers really should be bolted to a metal plate that is then floating above your main baseplate.

Mounting them like they are, with no metal plate to act as a heat sink, could cause thermal issues. The way it is now, you're going to need a lot of airflow over those lasers in order to keep everything cool. And even then you may still end up with thermal issues. Be sure to keep a close eye on the temeratures of the laser heads as you continue to test the projector.

The home made mirror mount looks like it's working well. Good job!

Also try to keep everything as close to the base plate as possible. I know sometimes it's hard but it's worth extra effort. Don't raise anything up unless you absolutely must. At the end you will be amazed how little fan power you will need to keep the system cool. The case will act like a giant heat sink. So use thermal compound everywhere you can. Oh yeah those galvo drivers get hot too.

Other thing is make everything as tough as possible. Everything must be solid as a granite. So that even a big hit would not misalign the optics and will not damage lasers also..
