yeah,i used a 90degree corner bracket in my build.

i have had success cutting 1/4" aluminum w/ a hacksaw.
you'll need one with a tall frame for cuts much over 6"long.
even 1/8" would work for some of the wood bases you showed.

i don't even have a vise and used channel locks to hold pieces while i drilled them.
measure carefully,center punch before drilling and do a pilot hole w/ a smaller bit first if you need to use a large bit.larger bits will drift w/out a pilot hole.
