It's a nice Idea, but unless you can get a mode locked single frequency laser for very cheap, it is a unrealistic goal.

    Cool

Make that TWO mode-locked, frequency stabalized lasers. Yeah, it's impractical as all hell.

I was just impressed by the physics. Like Sam, I thought it was impossible to combine more than two beams of the same color. It's interesting to learn that I was wrong, and why... (Even if it's impractical)

I think I have another way to combine at least 3 concentrically.

Well, I was talking to my dad, who is the director of White/blue LED R&D @ Lumileds, we were discussing the use of LEDs for LCD displays. I can't go into specifics, but there is a was to coat optics so that they reflect a very narrow polarization and pass everything else. Well, you should see where I am going with this...

I should, but... We have all been thinking of combining multiple wavelengths of red, but I thought that was different than what we are discussing here.

Hmmm- setting up mode locked for constructive interference instead of destructive? Well , like someone said it would take more than a basement laser lab to accomplish this..heh..
