    Default Home Depot Laser Projector

Home Depot had a Halloween laser projector for $35 so I picked it up. The box shows some skulls, the words Trick or Treat, bats, etc. I tried it out when I got home and it has some bliss light effects like those cheap things you see everywhere. I can't tell if the images are actually scanned or not. If they are, the scan angle is tiny. If not, I guess they just shine the laser through some stencil or something. My wife won't let me break it apart until we use it for Halloween. Anyone know what is going on inside these things?

I'd bet money that isn't scanned. Looks like hologram/ grating like on the end of keychains. See the glow around the lines.

This sure looks like projections through a series of plastic gratings based on the "noise" around the images in the pictures. For $35 I imagine a stepper motor and two low-ish power lasers is all you get.

Gratings. The last Halloween projector I saw with scanners was $300

The software for holographic optics is getting better with the gratings and DOEs...Too bad the mass printing by pressing replicas is noisy on the cheap ones.. SEE:
