Default Beam/dot issues on my red

this is how my dots look going throught the scanners

    green, big but round dot

    red, funny shape big thing

i cant work out what the problem is, i have cleaned everything, anyone got any ideas??

if i take the red out my scanner and shine it, its a nice focused round dot

It could be that your scanner mirrors are not very flat, thus deforming the beam. The red has a larger beam diameter when hitting the scanner mirrors than the green thus is influenced more by mirror non-flatness.

This is another aspect of mirror quality besides reflectivity especially important when investing in high grade lasers.

Andy, it may be a physical problem. The red housing may be distorting as it's being fastened, pulling the diode/lens off axis.
Try "resting" it in position rather than bolting it down, see if the problem still exists.

pfff will try, everything is bolted down.

its a bit hard to put in the wrong place as there is a little hole just the right size for the diode

andy, forgive me if i'm wrong but your reply to p18tull makes it sound like you may be missing what he is saying.

again, forgive if i'm wrong but he is not saying it is in the wrong place, rather that it is flexing when you bolt it down and distorting it physically.

so is it the dichro or the scanner mirrors causing the distortion?
