even if it runs fine at 12V, I still need to get +-12V from a single 12V right? How?

    +12v scanner amp

    no -12v needed

    so they do exist

    30K for 3mm beam, ~25K for 4mm beam

I guess the bigger laser beam weighs more so it slows down the scanner?

I'm sorry but how is that related to my question?

is there a chance to use 12V DC to run it rather than 24? I already use 12 for everything else so would be nice to not add an extra PSU to the box.
    you mean that question?

    Sure, but you didn't specify
    1) what scanner that amp is for
    2) if you can get that amp separately and where
and whether it xan woek with my scanner

    Bills Design
    Works for C506
    Manufactured by X-Laser
Not sure if they still have any in stock. I only have 3pcs left or so. They used to sell them direct.
No idea what kind of scanner you have.

Then it will not do, but thanks for letting me know it exists.

So back to the last question, what to use to get dual 12V power for +-12V scanner Amp from a 12V PSU?

I need something like this but which can handle 3 Amps rather than few hundred milliAmps.

Inverter followed by bipolar power supply....I’m kidding.

There are buck boost designs that can take a positive voltage and make a negative rail. I’ll see if I can find the design but search buck power supply. There are about five topologies that are common.

An inverting buck converter is what I've used for a similar situation. I used the LM2596S-ADJ.
In inverting topology it gives 1A max I think, but that ran a cheap scanner set fine.

    Just my 2 cents.
