    Default Shielded cables, again.

I received my chinese 30K galvos yesterday. I will give a review once I have more time to use them. In the meantime, I have a question about the cable between the DAC and the scanner amps. The wire that came with the kit is just normal straight wire but my other scanner set had a shield wire for this. What do you guys use between your DAC and amps (or your DB25 connector and scanner amps if you don't have the DAC in your scanner enclosure)? I only need about 1 foot of wire to reach between the DAC and amps. Is shielded even necessary?

If they are differential, you shouldn't need shielding. For short single ended runs you shouldnt need shielding either..

I always use shielded wires (cables) by routing analog signals.
It doesn't matter if it's inside or outside enclosure, short or long distance.
I think it's a good habit. 1 foot is about 30cm, I would definitely use shielded wire.

The scanner amps accept differential inputs but I only have single ended on the DAC. So to be safe I guess shielded is what I will do. Did you make yours? Did you use audio cable?

    Default Cable

If I need to connect unbalanced output (single ended) to balanced input (differential) I always do it according picture. You can use standard audio cable. Sorry for the picture quality. I was in a hurry :-)

Edit: Good links about (un)balanced I/O:
