I probably won't do this because it would be investing money in dead tech or whatever... But.
I own a pair of Martin Roboscan 1220 XPRs (or maybe RPR.) They're massive 150 pound moving mirror fixtures. Their main drawback is the moving mirrors are more limited in Y axis than Cyberlights. But they're beautiful internally.
I always toyed with the idea... there are Chinese made electronic ballasts that use switch mode power supplies I assume to drive the lamps. In the Roboscan there is a massive transformer for lamp ballast, then a fairly large transformer for the robotics and circuit boards.
What if it was converted 100% to the switch mode style supplies? I wonder how much weight it would shed. Would they become easy to fly, but still have the fairly high output? Or have LEDs just blown past the 1200 watt MSR and HMI bulbs?
