    Default The Lowell Cross System

With the recent post about the building of an old school projector here, I'm reminded of the thread about the Lowell Cross system discussed seven years ago. A member at the time, 300Evil picked the system up from Dr. Cross in Iowa and a few years afterward, disappeared from the forum. Now I wonder what ever happened to that system. It really should be in the Vintage Laser Archive.

I didn't have the means to go and get it myself when it needed to be moved, and was very happy another member here stepped in. Now I'm planning a trip to the midwest again in April and am able to deal with it properly, and am wondering if it's still in the midwest. Is anyone here still in contact with him? I see he hasn't posted here since January 2014, but did at LPF eight months ago. It would be a shame for this system to be lost to history. I hope it's been kept intact the past four years, but am worried. It's just sooooo easy for equipment like that to be separated and moved about in storage for convenience. And if anything should happen to the one person who knows what it is, economic or medical, it all becomes big heavy old garbage that they think nobody wants and needs to be moved in a big hurry. That wouldn't happen if it's among 400 others just like it.

Anyway, I sent an email to him via this forum but don't know if he'll get it. If anyone is in recent contact with him, please ask him to contact me.

Not looking good for the recovery of this important old projector system. Bummer.

I know where its supposed to be... Stored in a warehouse near Chicago under an agreement with the son of the professor... It was picked up...

I've had a conversation with the gentleman holding this old light show system, and am convinced it's in good hands. During my trip to the Chicago area, I'll be meeting with him to discuss plans for it. All is well in Laserland!

Yay! I met Mr. Cross and his device in the early seventies when he was on Wagner Rd. In Ann Arbor.
    A memorable experience.

I saw the system on its storage shelf yesterday during a wonderful lunchtime visit with Gary and Adam Bourassa. My fellow holographer Ed Wesly from Chicago joined us in a discussion of how best to move it into public display and possible use. This historical system can't be in better hands. Many thanks to the Bourassas for hosting, and to those here who helped get us together!
