Default co2 - keeping water clean

Hey guys, I purchased a 40W el-cheapo laser cutter/engraver. After putting in some Thor Labs kinematics and installing a better ventilation system, I really love this thing, inexpensive and very effective. So far, I have just been running store-bought distilled water but I notice algae still manages to make its way in. Is there anything I can use in the water that will not degrade the co2 tube or optics that will help keep down the algae? This is my first co2 laser so, outside of basic laser safety, I don't know the best care and feeding of a co2 tube. BTW, standard chinese sealed tube, not a flowing gas tube.

Wonder if a drop or two of household chlorine might
do the trick. I'm sure someone with more knowledge
    will chime in.

You could fit a UV steriliser unit in line, the type used to control algae in ponds.

I run a 10% isopropyl alcohol solution, and it works great. we do the same thing at work with our high power lasers (I'm a laser engineer)
