    Default 442nm Diodes

If anybody can find me the source for those multimode ~450mw 442nm dioes that the likes of Arctos and HB laser use..... well... i'll be happy.

Who on earth manufactures these things ? Those Germans have already done well sitting on this info.. but cmon guys, share the love...

I could do with quad 442nm 400mw laser diodes in our next projector...

Nichia also have a multi-mode 500mw blue diode coming. This is where Arctos is getting them from i am led to believe.

We have all just got to be patient, and wait for prices to drop i guess.

what happens when you go to 10, 100 ?

having for a few years worked for a LED flashlight company, I know Nichias initial prices are set very high, we'd need to negotiate. Right now I think they want to suck the air cooled argon market dry, hence the 3K prices. A new air cooled is 7K in quanity, so hence the 3K price. I'd bet closer to 1500 is a real price for a small quanity, and if we could order 100........well it gets better. You have to negotiate with the Japanese, they start high and its up to the customer to respectfully bid them lower. And if the reliability is good, I'd spend 3K to put one in a planetarium show in a heartbeat. Since I cant find decent blue under 3K in solid state, I guess argons still rule.

Dave, yup forgot to include this:
We have a multimode 445nm model as well, which can emit 500mW optical output
power. The model code is NDB7113E and its price is same as NDHB510APA.
Steve: I don't know how the quantities break down. I knew the prices were going to be crazy and I didn't bother to follow up. I would love to have one of these. I would also buy a pro diode driver for it. I sure would not want to rig a driver for a $$$$.$$ diode.

A $25,000 coherent star II Ar at 6w only give you 300mw of 458.. I can't imagine what 1/2 of a watt of 445 would look like.

If you figure $150 for a power supply and driver & enclosure another $100 for nice optics. And $2000?? for the diode $2250 for 1/2 watt of 445 doesn't seem too bad. Unfortunately I don't have that lying around for a sparkly blue new toy

$3k for a 500mW blue diode isn't all that bad when you think about it. Most argon lasers of that power cost much more new and in quantity. I bet that is what nichiea is aiming to replace.
