    I built a rubber band powered balsa wood and tissue paper ornithopter when I was about 14. Found the plans in an Encyclopedia Britannica. Wasn't particularly practical though.

    I have seen a few RC ornithopters on Youtube. The technology is good enough now that you can control them like a slow RC plane.
