Default Saturn 1b for my new projector

Some of you know, I won the big door prize at SELEM this year. Scannermax 506 digitals from pangolin.

I just upgraded it with some cash and ordered a set of Saturn 1B scanners this week, which I plan to put into a projector in the coming year

Nothing very impressive, just a 1 watt. but I've been talking to David Kumupla on and off and he has been doing these in a high quality unit.

I'm strongly thinking about having him build me one with the new scanners.

Scanners should be here before the end of the year.

You should do it, the systems DKumpula builds with the dual singe modes and Saturns are absolutely beautiful.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Thank you for the kind words, guys!

In my opinion, Saturns are far and above the greatest galvos on planet Earth and deserve to be paired with something with excellent beam specs. The build approach I've been using for my home projectors is really simple that almost anyone could make. I incorporate the best parts I can find with a focus on great beam specs and excellent linearity down to the last milliwatt. The small footprint of the Saturns (and Compact 506s) allow for very small/lightweight builds.

This is my first build with Saturns and it performs flawlessly as my main graphics projector at home:

While we are talking about small form factors with Pangolin scanners, these are my smallest RGB builds to date using a couple sets of Compact 506s that I acquired from X-Laser USA:

These last two guys are only 480mw each, but they are great for beams and light graphics/abstracts. They can also run off of a Lion battery for over an hour if you need to do laser shows during a backpacking trip.

I saw the dual single sat 1b Mach driver combo as you must have as well at selem. You will not be sorry. Im for now having the same build done with 6215 and I’d run those over with a car if I could have the sat1b Mach combo. David’s builds are like the art they make. A work of art.

Those projectors are a thing of beauty. Beams look very sharp in the photos. I also use saturn 1bs, mine are integrated into a clubmax 3000. Stock tuning is ok, but i’m Interesting in learning how to tune these beauties to get a little more out of them.

Thank you! It was fun to build. Yes, the drivers and the galvos run off of +12V. Here is a link to a build thread with some detailed pics of the inside.

In my opinion the key to building such a small projector is the X-Laser galvo amp for the Compact 506 scanners that runs off a single-ended 12V supply.
