Pardon my ignorance, I recently picked this item up from a local university....my curiosity got the best of me. Opening it up it looks like a liquid mercury bulb of some sort. Curious what its intended purpose is. Photos Attached. Thanks!

High Pressure Mercury or Mercury-Xenon short arc lamp in a solar simulator or UV exposure housing, at least 150 watt lamp. You need cooling and a power supply and some specialized expertise in lamp safety before running. If I had to guess, that is a EG&G/Perkin Elmer or ILC Housing. Both used that shade of blue paint. Its ancient, and the lamp is probably long past it's design lifetime.
