    $$$ sent, medium shirt plz.

I will bring synths, lasers, and light DJ gear.

Also, was the online schedule helpful the last two years? I can put some time into setting it up again and to fix the bugs we had if people want it.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

    Thanks,
    Sal

*EDIT* I could be interested in an audience scanning course.

Brad no need to thank me... you covered every aspect of SELEM that I have been touting at LPF and then some---

I really thought I was the last to find it... I was about to ask for a link to post 'overthere' not 100% sure that a copy would be OK to
post it.. so it will be there asap, (silly me)

I am sad to tell you all that I have decided to skip one more year
and make SELEM 2020 my 6th and hopefully NOT my last.
I need time to get back into better shape and not have to work so hard to have enough funds--I will be sending my attendee fee VERY soon, I have never been 1st to pay. I think it being non-refundable is a very good thing and an extra incentive to make it happen. I have been in the hospital 4 times of late... 3 times in ICU.. my heart has gotten stronger as I am doing rehab and taking a BUNCH of meds..my heart was at 20% But now back up to 40% which is not bad as more than 60 -70% is rare.
I want to be in the 2020 'group photo'. Last year's pic was epic.

I hope many more will take TONS of pics & vids and post them while still at the event... there is no excuse for there not seeing MANY more then and not weeks after.. that is pretty much everybodies 'job' not just a few..

There should be pics from every demo-seminar-'how-to'. etc Some of those are very underrated... so more photos/vids etc can add a lot to draw more new attendees. There is afaik no other place where so much is given to us SO freely.. thanks to all who do them.

Hope you all have a wonderful SELEM..
    Len

I’m tentatively planning to make it this year. I just permanent change of stationed to Germany; I’ve only been here for a week so far. Money is tight with the move, but I miss you folks, so I’m going to do my damndest to get out there again.

I vote yes, Sal! It was an easy way to make last minute updates and share them with everyone. Having me run around just marking things on the hard-copies posted around the event is inadequate for getting the word out. GroupMe was also very helpful in reminding people that a presentation or event was going to start shortly.

Speaking of presentation and auditorium schedules, I want to thank those of you who have already reached out to me and let me know your wishes and availability. I'll be posting a draft schedule in a separate thread shortly. (We've got some fun, new things this year . . )

    Default Musing...

Last year, we all know the live abstract and beam show to Dark Side of The Moon was epic and I know people will likely want to attempt something similar this year. I'm formally submitting my suggestion/request to do the "Animals" album this time around. I know DSOTM is a classic and we usually have a version of *something* done to the album every year but, I'd really be interested to see what people do live with "Animals". The Pink Floyd tribute band I work with frequently does the entire album live and so I regularly am doing lasers with it.

Default Very Special Guest at this years SELEM ! ! !

    Hello everyone,

I don't post often enough, but...
I have some really exciting news to share for this year’s 13th SELEM event!
We will have a very special guest of honor (Dave Sieg of Scanimate fame) joining us on Thursday, Friday, and possibly Saturday.

Many of you may know who Dave is, but EVERYONE has seen the results of his work when it comes to the incredible Real Time “Scanimate” Graphic Effects System! Dave was Chief Engineer at Image West. They did countless show openings on TV and even film effects over the years – just a spectacular portfolio of clients!

Dave will be giving a talk on Friday at SELEM 2019! So, all you analog guys and gals out there get your questions ready. He will be available for questions after his talk, and during the event, but please be respectful of his time. Dave is a super nice guy, and is an incredible source of information on analog video effects, circuits, and how it was done in the good-old days!

I sure hope everyone is as excited as I am to see and talk to Dave, this will be epic!

Here is some background on Scanimate:

Another great video from Dave Sieg (check out the graphics at 3:25 for example!):

As an OK analog designer myself, and creator of many “Devices”, and Laser Show related gear like FM Record / Playback systems, Scanner Amps, and of course the Analog / Digital Laser Consoles at Audio Visual Imagineering, I feel that the Scanimate System is the closest type of visual effects device / system, to an Analog Laser Console; particularly since many of the waveforms, manipulations, vector math, and more, are very similar or in some cases the same.

Check this out… I mean come on!:

And absolutely and without doubt, the most profound and influential art pieces (at a very pivotal time for me in my creative life and so much more) is Ron Hays “Music Image Odyssey” (1979):

Here are a few videos to get anyone who doesn't know about what Scanimate is and how the Scanimate system works. Such a cool and amazing device!

This excerpt from Dave Sieg’s DVD "The Dream Machine" describing some of the Scanimate effects (so funny, this really does sound like the old show production days – we had names for everything!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSNwBgO5qVY

This is a “VICELAND” special about Dave Sieg and the Scanimate system he has preserved (the special R&D model no less!). Dave has spent his career using and keeping Scanimate machines alive and well.

A Demo Reel featuring the Scanimate from 1975 (keep in mind this was ALL Real Time!):

A great feature about Scanimate and a few behind the scenes:

    See you at the 13th annual SELEM 2019 ! ! !

Did my first "Laser Lumia Show" in 1974... and have never stopped experimenting !
