I removed the video. On second thought it seemed kind of tactless to publicize rude cycloids. The interesting part was seeing the image evolving with dials turning at the same time. The screen shot in the previous post shows the phase modulation function. I'm not sure how common the phase modulation function is in current cycloid generators. By phase modulation, I mean modulating the quadrature itself away from half Pi. I'll pick some more interesting cycloids from my log book and post evolution videos of those.

Variable phase is done by adding an OPAMP buffer or unity gain inverter each to 0' and 90' phases and hanging a single potentiometer off both outputs, and the wiper slides from phase to phase. There are other ways, such as vcf lowpass or bandpass , but this is a start.

Interesting. Yeah I see that now that you mention it. That is the phase shifting. For phase modulation, I guess analog multipliers would be needed?

Attached is a note on pm cycloids.

PM me with an email address.

There is a difference between what a VCA, 2Q and 4Q multipliers can do. I want to send you a schematic to try. Switching between AM and multiplication is a thing. Basically, I want to show you how to multiply cheaply with common components.

Here's another original number produced as the choreography functions of the emulator get developed. Notice how the Ivan space turns 3D toward the end. Still nothing innovative with colormod. I expect that will be next.

    "Ivan space"??????

I may have used that coinage in a post a number of years back. Please let me know if it could be seen as disrespectful to say that. I'm using that term to refer to the set of capabilities / constraints that creates what I think of as the "Laserium Universe" meaning the four channels, four colors acting like performing characters, joystick grouping and rotation functions that create for the viewer the sense of two or three dimensional volume in which the visual music is happening.

A photo exists of the iconic four danube hoops concentric at increasing sizes but with different rotational offsets. Quoting from Crystal Odyssey: "...the realm of Holos. The vibrating web of the universe." I imagine this when using the coinage "Ivan space".

The 6B3D emulator has a variety of 3D modes of the Ivan space such as 2D plane tilted, cycloid stack, skaters on rink, etc.

I don't find the term "Ivan space" it disrespectful, just - for me - undefined. It's an interesting shorthand. The idea lends itself to a variation on "Turing complete" in computer science. If a laser system was "Dryer complete" it could do all the things a 6B could do in a live performance. A shorthand for the user interface design philosophy behind the 6B would be worth some thought. Maybe borrowing from Turing again. A "Dryer test" might be an interesting thing to invent regarding performance.
