    Default Old Laser Training Gun

Here's a blast from the past for anyone interested in laser tag. It's a 1988 Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) controller gun made by Loral Electro-Optical Systems for the army. Maybe some here have experience with this system. I don't. Would this qualify as a laser pointer?

... acts like one, so should be a "pointer"

Was it used for laser-guided missiles or "marking" targets in training and battle?

These were used in the field as test equipment and to reset equipment/personnel in the field. Equipped with a 904nm laser they could be decoded up to 3k. The codes transmitted by the one pictured were limited...future versions transmitted all the MILES codes.

Good question, would it qualify as a pointer, <.5W, 904nm pulsed at 120ns...6k max rep rate...but you could see the beam with an IR scope.

Truly a blast from the past! Thanks for the post!
