Very cool! And expensive!
I saw a picture on the German forum where you directly etched a copper PCB, what wavelenght/power/pulse rate did you use there? It looks like raster scanning, was it done with galvanometers or X/Y stage?
hehe, found this while looking for drivers...20.000W laser drivers, 4x160Amps plus controller very cheap if you are int the US

... this was with a "pulsed" 20Watt fiber-laser and XY-galvoscanners ... here a video removing the paint from a PCB and then burning through the copper to engrave a QR-code

*** EDIT *** - for the power -- the "20 Watts" is the averaged power, while the pulse-peak-power is in the range of 10 Kilowatts!

... this was with a fiber-laser, so as simple, as setting the power and TTL/PWM-pulses to let it burn.
The controller was an E1701D - http://halaser.de/e1701.php
Actually I'm programming a similar XY-galvoscanner system with a blue 6W-laserdiode (for engraving foam materials) with one of my own "intelligent" power-drivers, so it's the same TTL/PWM as with the fiber-laser, only changing the actual power is different (setting an analogue voltage and a latch signal) ...

I made some progress again!
Here is my improvised cutting head and lens holder, the last picture is 100W into a rusty iron ball that I use as beam stop!
To take it further I will need a proper 50 Amp power supply, cooling for the head, PSU/Driver and a PWM generator and lever converter to test that out before trying to mount it on the CNC! And an oil free compressor with higher pressure.
... the software BeamConstruct is free ... but without a valid license it's only running in Demo-mode (or you program your own drivers with the SDK) -- here you'll need one of the controllers with firmware, which act as USB-license-dongle ... I'm using the E1701D-controller - http://www.halaser.de/e1701.php
