Default Roomba or Equivalent? Experiences? Recommendation?

Looking for recommendations...experiences? Hopefully in the under $300 range? Looking for my spouse as a possible birthday gift for Me in July ...and a gift for 80+ year old pop-in-law after we try out. Comments on cleanliness, easy to empty, battery? You know...
    Thanks in advance.

I have the NEATO Botvac D5 and I'm pretty pleased with it. When it's done it returns to the docking station where it automatically recharges. Dumping the dust bin is easy - it just pulls out. The first time you run it you'll probably have to empty the bin about half way through, but after that first run it won't fill up nearly as fast because all the nooks and crannies will be clean.

You set the cleaning boundaries by laying down a thin strip of vinyl (like a threshold) and the magnets inside the strip tell the unit to stop and turn around. Works great!
