    if you beam is 3mm and the lens 10mm or more and you only use the center how does it make a difference. I get what your saying but the nature of this beam seems to render the issue a non issue.
    ive build many a beam expanders and never found pcx to be an issue. If I use flat pcx in I use flat pcX out flat in flat out cancels.

    ... I've simulated (with discrete setups and "evolved") and tested some beam-optics with different lenses for monochromatic beams (high-power LED's and lasers) and found the results with aspherics and achromats comparable and much better than with "normal" spherics ... the wider the beam (or smaller the lenses), the better.

    There seems to be some "fuzzyness" at the outer perimeter of diverging beams (typical setup with diode lasers) with normal spherics, what's the main reason for using aspherics -- but my tests with achromats too produced good results ... don't know, exactly why, but could be the "double-fold" through two sperical lenses in the achromate sandwich does something for good
