    Hypothetically, yes

I presume the lens may be coated and relatively high power, with a fat uncollimated beam would be needed.

    heres my theory?

Ok well on a number plate the yellow back ground is reflective and the black lettering is not reflective. So a speed camera only picks up the black outline of the lettering.

So take a P for example, add a bit extra like the below picture to make it look like a B. The added bit is the same tone/colour as the yellow back ground, but its not reflective.

So when a camera takes a picture it will show up as a B, as the black and none reflective yellow wont reflective light back to the camera. But on close inspection of a number plate it looks like a P as the new added yellow is the same colour/tone as the reflective back ground.

Only problem dont try it on a bright sunny day when a camera does not need a flash LOL

I would think that if you did do that to your number plate you would soon get pulled at night because it would look like you had doctored your plate if a copper saw you.

The most effective way may be to have a powerful light triggered flash gun mounted near your number plate. Then the flash of the gatso triggers it and it fights bach with a flash that would obscure the image.
This does work - as my flash gun has a light triggered slave mode and if you try and take a picture of the flash gun it wipes the image out.

P.S. of course all this is arbitary whan a bloke in a hi viz jumps out from behind a bush and shoots his laser at you.
If you need to ask the question 'whats so good about a laser' - you won't understand the answer.

Remember a speedcam takes 2 pictures and a normal slave flash cannot power cycle in half a second.
You need 2 slave flashes with a 1 count lockout on the second unit to prevent it triggering on the first speedcam flash.

Or a high powered laser bar.... 808nm would work well...

However both techniques would be far from legal and may have dire consequences for the chap driving behind you.

    Anyhoo you technical bodkins ......
I was wondering about the forthcoming meet.
Do we have sounds at the venue?
Whilst I like my visuals, sound adds so much more to the experience.
I think I read that the venue is a club so that should be OK, just wanted a memory refresh (and to bump the thread for us UK guys).

Now that Poundland have their 2008 diaries in stock I've even added the date !!

On my mental meanderings, I also had a "Wouldn't it be good if ...." moment.

Wouldn't it be good if we (and by we I mean you guys with the wherewithall) chose a shortish tune (about 3 mins or so) and composed a light show to it, either beams or graphics, which we could all then judge at the meet.
Naturally there'd be no prize , just the kudos of seeing what could be done with a common element (the tune).

    Whaddya think guys?

Funny you should say that, Mark (Insanity) and I were talking about his the other night.
He's dug up a tune with some good elements that we would like set a live beam show to, and play at the meet.

Anyone else game for a "showdown"?
