no way to get $100 an hour in portland for edm shows.
    just the sad truth.
yeah,i'm not even familiar w/ rabbit in the moon's music but i know all the kids will be there.
we have had only two shows this year w/ the cubr.
new years and a club night where not many people showed.
so,i agree,it is a good opportunity and will lead to more shows with the same promoter, but it is really only an opportunity to keep being able to play.

i'm considering trading the three watt cubr for a solid state color projector.
a nice fairly powerful rgb or a REALLY nice rgy.
are there rgys w/ 1.5 watt greens?
can you balance red with that with available tech?
would i be selling myself short if i traded for an rgy of top power?
some details in buy sell trade.

I'd go for the balanced RGB rig over the RYG, even if the total power is lower. Remember, it's damned expensive to get enough red to match 1.5 watts of green. Plus, if you go with 660 nm or shorter, you'll be looking at a super-fat beam made from multiple diodes. I suppose that won't be so bad for beamshows, but you have to make sure your scanner mirrors are large enough to hold that fat red beam.

If you go with a DPSS 671 nm solution, you can get the power you need and also have a tight beam, but because you're so low in the spectrum you'll need bucketloads of power (min 6 watts, more like 10 watts) to get the color balance right. That's going to be *stupidly* expensive. (Though, admittedly, it would be one hell of a cool looking setup.)

The RGB rig will likely be lower power, but the effects you can get from a balanced RGB rig are pretty damn cool. Sure, they won't work in a large venue, but in a smaller club they really rock. Even if graphics aren't your thing, I believe you'll be pleased with the amazing color blending you can get from a nice solid state whitelight rig running a decent beamshow.

Eh - maybe I'm biased, but I really dig RGB...

yeah,i figured that but i can be too timid when trading.
i doubt i'll get an offer but i may look into comparative values and see what kind of rgb projector i could expect to trade for.
has to be cdrh approved and ilda compatible.

i'd say the pulslight is probably worth $5000 used.
the only other used price i could find was $7500 for a five watt specktronika.

Might want to just take the 5 grand and run... You could build a hell of an RGB projector with 5 large dude. Or is that not an option?

just did the first walkthrough last night.
    it is a HUGE venue.
i have never had this much throw.
the lighting guys are bringing two pro hazers one of which is a df50.
that scan angle will have lots of room to open up wide.
there are so many screens onstage we will be off to one side and center cut across the crowd at an angle.
this means no mirrors as the effect would be very lopsided and detract from the stage symetry.
on the opposite side of the huge room from the laser will be white strech fabric running like 200' along.
this will be lit up with color lighting and will balance the presence of the laser to the other side of the stage.
i did tell her(the promoter) that i can't go on at this discount.
but i agree that this show,in this town is a huge feather in our caps and i am psyched.
she has a three year lease on this venue and i will be getting repeat buisness from her.
HA!all of the sudden i don't feel the need to trade the cubr.

... but you still have to post pictures...

Good luck with your show man. Make sure you get someone sober to take video.

i'll try to get pics inside the cubr too,but that is more hit and miss as i don't have a digital camera of my own at home.

I suppose that won't be so bad for beamshows, but you have to make sure your scanner mirrors are large enough to hold that fat red beam.

It can be compressed by beam expender in reverse to fit onto 3mm galvo.
Also with tweaking you can get ok beam @ 20 meters. I've done just that.
