I examined the rainbow_target file. There is no magenta in that file and all of the Z coordinate values are -16. So I replaced magenta with cyan and moved the whole thing back to -16.

Overall, the drawing of it is very sketchy and loose, not at all like the preview I see on my computer.
I assume that is because of the cheap projector.
There are lots of things you could tweak to make it look better.

Do laser projectors lose 'resolution' on the edges?

They distort when you drive them to fast. So you can slow down the points per second or narrow the scan area.
