    He had a valid point, though: you should avoid using glycerin if you are going to make your own fog juice. Glycol is the way to go. Not only is it less likely to gum up, it's much safer.

    Older fog machines can get hot enough to crack glycerin to acrolein, and the permissible exposure limit for acrolein is ridiculously low. (It's so toxic that it's considered immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH) at just 2 ppm, which is 5 milligrams per cubic METER of air.)

    So Steve's point to not use glycerin is a good one.

    PS: The video claims that fog machines can't get hot enough to create "toxic gases", and then uses a blow torch to illustrate the process. But glycerin decomposes to acrolein at 280 C, which is well below the flame temperature of that torch. A fog machine heater block can easily reach 300 C, especially if the high temp switch fails.
