After all the idiots with handheld lasers Pointing at aircraft and vehicles and pedestrians on the street, the cops are well-versed on laser and it’s illegal use you don’t believe it. go point one at one! Then you’ll find out how well-versed the judge is on laser safety and its rules and illegal use!

    ... I've meant a LED-pocket-beamer, so no laser-hassles

But a Raspi with GPS-dongle and 7"-TFT-display would do it too ...

I use my iPhone mounted on the bar and it’s just fine

... yes, this is the easiest way -- but then too, it's not enough DIY-feeling

In the thread on Reddit I actually suggested that a pico-projector (AKA "Pocket-Beamer") would be an eye-safe alternative, as the light source is non-coherent.

However, none of the currently-available pico-projectors would be bright enough for this to work in broad daylight. (I doubt even a full-size LCD projector would be bright enough, unless you had something like a 6000 lumen projector or something.) And a biker's navigation aid that only works at night isn't very useful.

I think a better solution would be to use a wearable video display (Google Glass, Microsoft Hololens, etc).
