Buffo: I did overlooked that in the first place! hehe
To bad that 635nm beams are so fat I would like them as thin as maxyz red beams

How about 300mW of 640/645nm from a pair of those Mitsubishi ML520G51-01's mentioned briefly here?
You'll get a 2.5mm beam and under 1mrad divergence without too much trouble, and it would look almost as bright as a watt of 660nm.
I'm very tempted by the idea of bundling 4 or 8 of them together, if the UK cost of them comes back half reasonable.

That's an interesting proposal, and if the cost is reasonable, it would be very tempting. You're absolutely right - 645 nm would look brighter.

So, you going to build a prototype or what?

    You bet Adam
I have waited years for diodes of this spec to appear on the market...
Just waiting on the price quotes to come back, and if they are not outragous I'll be putting something together using them - without doubt!

Cool! Please keep us posted on your progress, and also on the cost.

    Will do
Had an email land this morning, and they are £152 in small quantities, so quite pricey.

Yikes! That's just over $300 just for the bare diode. Hmmm... Not quite as economical as I'd hoped...

Yeah, bit high on the price. And they have a slightly disappointing divergence when wound up to full chat, of 11 (good) by 50 (not so good) so it will produce a pretty elliptical spot when focussed, although 2 through a PBS would iron out that wrinkle but the beam will not be quite as tight as the Opnext HL6545MG's I'm working with at the moment.

I'm still tempted to get a couple to test, even at that price.

Ok, got bored thinking about it and just ordered two of them.
It'll be a couple of weeks before I can report anything though as I'm busy constructing "Big Red" at the moment.
Pictures of that project will get posted sometime over the weekend, but suffice to say - he's big, and very, very red
