    Question

What is it though? I wonder if the quantity discount is $0.15 off, or $0.15 each...

from what i've gathered metal mirrors are only 70% or so reflective.

search keyword bounce mirror alternatives,or just bounce mirror, and you'll find the metal mirror question addressed.

if you want cheap bounce mirrors, then regular rear surface mirrors will far out perform metal.

if you want to do double bounces you may want fs mirrors for at least the first bounce to keep loss and divergence down.

    Cool

Agreed. Metal mirrors are cheap, but they don't have very good reflective efficiency. You're far better off with even a standard bathroom (glass) mirror, even though it's not a first surface mirror...

Then again, first surface mirrors appear on E-bay all the time. Here's some 6 inch mirrors that are going for 13 bucks each.

I figured as much. But the metal ones are really cheap! and they won't break. Seems like a good thing to have for experimenting and throwing in a box when you are done... And leave the nice glass ones for when you want the best output.

    Anyway, just a suggestion.

Good point about them not breaking... I hadn't considered that. And they are cheap as dirt. I suppose if you can live with the reduced reflection they could be useful.

AR coated aluminium would be shatterproof and extremely highly reflective. Probably expensive though for large surfaces. It would be a front surface mirror, and the coating would protect the aluminium from oxidising. I think many scanner mirrors are similar except for being glass, Al coated, then AR coated.

You can get max 84% reflectivity from aluminum without enhansing it.

So use a multilayer dielectric coating. Except then it's better to use a glass substrate.
