Been ages since I have been on this site let alone enjoying the laser hobby. Life kicked me right in the nuts. I am hoping to get back into it, and I enjoy older gear so why not pull my hair out on some ebay find?

I assume most of you keep tabs on ebay, if so and you seen these I went for it. Now to find information on this and try to rebuild them or find a use. They are built very nice, and have some promises.

I bought both of the units, neat to see serial numbers 401 and 402.

The good,
Galvanometer drivers and other electronics, power supply is in both boxes.
The galvanometer mounts, and the fiber input mount is in both boxes.
The anti reflective glass is both here and not broken, just one popped out during the shipping.

The bad,
Only on unit has the Cambridge galvanometers, they are 6800HP units. Not sure I will find another set, or if the one set I have even works.
The only galvanometer that came has broken mirrors,

And the big bad. What the heck controlled this unit? Finding information on this is not really around. I looked over the wayback machine over and over. Google got sick of me searching and said give it up.

The other thing is if I can not find working 6800HP Galvanometers is there any of those Chinese ones compatible for a drop in replacement?

What a way to jump back into this hobby.

Maybe I should have just got out my old Red-Line Beamscan.

It looks like it has a port for the fiber cable to enter. It looks like it has a 5 pin DMX style connection that is almost certainly +x, -x, +y, -y, and maybe ground. It's self powered. Figuring out what's what shouldn't be that hard.

The electronics inside I took a look at last night. Custom power supply on the same board as the galvo driver. nothing fancy.

As for the fiber port, I have a idea on how to make something work. Just have to see if the driver boards work and the two scanners I have work. Find someone to 3d print the mirror jig to replace those if they work. Find another set of compatible or real 6800hp.

I believe Laser Fantasy once developed a similar fiber fed scanning head. Perhaps they can provide some helpful info.
Of course, you'll need an appropriate fiber, beam injection assembly w/lens, color mixing optics, a kr/ar ion gas laser (which it was designed for), 30 amp 3 phase, & 30 gal/min water cooling and Bob's yer uncle.
TBH, I'd simply ditch the fiber input and stick the galvos in front of an analog RGB diode module, with a standard DB25 ILDA interface.

besides the BD25, I planned on building a RGB module that will fit into the fiber mount.

Great idea!
Perhaps the RGB module could become the base for an adjustable scanning head that rotates around the fiber orifice. only takes a short pipe nipple, some nuts, & a large nylon washer.
Just a thought.

Depending on the size of the module it could fit inside the case, and maybe I can find someone with a mill or 3d printer take the fiber mount out and put 90 degree angle mirror or something. Have options. Just have to get them working and with mirrors first.
