suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.
You know things are off to a slow start when the guy who was the FIRST to register for SELEM last year doesn't actually sign up until less than 2 weeks before the early registration cut-off.
I get it, people have been busy, and there's just a lot going on everywhere right now.
But we're starting to get close now, so hopefully things will be picking up in the coming weeks.

I'm in ofc!! Can't wait to see you all!
In an unexpectedly exciting development this last month, I have just returned from a 3100 mile cross country road trip adventure with my laser white whale in the back of a sprinter van.....and it meets all definitions of that phrase! The monster I've been seeking for decades, but also white and the size of a fuckin whale - I finally acquired a copper vapor laser! If I can figure out transport logistics I would love to bring it with me. The crate is just under 8 feet long and 860lbs![]()
Hells Yeah! Another Copper Vapor Laser!!!!!!
I saw my first CVL actually lasing at the UKLEM in March of this year (thanks to Dan Briggs for bringing that monster to the event!), and now I might get a chance to see a second one running in the same year? How cool is that?
We've had two CVLs at FLEMs in past years, but we never got either one of them running. The first time we knew we didn't have the power to run it, so it was more of a display piece, but the second time we actually tried very hard to get the thing to lase... Alas, it was not to be. (We later learned that a crucial sensor inside the unit had failed, and without any documentation it was going to take a lot of effort to reverse-engineer a solution, so Paul (clandestiny) decided to scrap the unit instead.)
Would be awesome if we can get this thing running at SELEM, Wil! As for transport, I'm sure we can work something out.

Having the original shipping crate has been a huge help for moving it around! I need to patch it up a bit since some sections have definitely seen better days, but we were able to get it in the van in CA with just a forklift and me to operate a couple jacks and transfer it between blocks and wheels. When I got home, I have a motorcycle lift that made unloading fairly easy - I jacked it up again and attached 3 crossbars with 6 wheels to the bottom of the crate, then we just rolled it out the back! With these 6 wheels, 2 people can push the crate on a flat surface or a smooth, gently sloped surface; bullying it up my piece of shit steep driveway took 4 of us pushing.
I don't own any vehicle long enough to fit it, so I'd probably be looking at doing a rental again to bring it up for SELEM; I will definitely want to make sure I have everything else needed to run it too since it would be soul crushing to get it all the way up there and in the door just to realize we're short one specialty gas fitting or something dumb like that. I'm going on a trip to hang out with family in a few days, but when I get back this will be priority number 1!
I also decided before I left that if I'm indeed trying to get serious about making laser-related video content, it would be actually criminal to drive across an entire continent with a death star weapon in the trunk and not make an aftermovie about it....so I had a gopro stuck on the windshield and rolling for the whole drive, and tried my best to capture some footage at all of my stops. Anyone want to place bets on how long this is going to take me to edit
